Speak Truth

I have noticed a common theme among rape and sexual abuse survivors – we allow what others have done to us to make us feel “less.” To make us feel worthless. Dirty. Disgusting. Unlovable. You name it! Yet, nothing we can do nor anything that can be done to us can affect our worth. Our worth is not anchored in what we have done or what has been done to us – it is anchored in the truth of God’s word – The Bible. Don’t be duped into believing that you are “less.” Just as Paul encourages us to “…take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV)” we need to consciously decide we are going to replace lies with truth. So what are these truths? Here is a list of some Biblical truths:

You were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).

You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

You are known by God (Psalm 139:14).

You are treasured (Deuteronomy 7:6).

You are God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).

You are a daughter (or son) of God – Beloved (John 1:12, Galatians 3:26 & 1 John 3:1-2).

You are loved (Isaiah 43:4, John 3:16, 1 Thessalonians 1:4).

You are known, set apart and appointed by God (Jeremiah 1:5, 1 Peter 2:9).

You are “God’s special Possession” (1 Peter 2:9, Deuteronomy 14:2).

You are chosen, hand-picked by God (1 Peter 2:9, Deuteronomy 7:6, Deuteronomy 14:2, Jeremiah 1:5, John 15:16 & 19, Ephesians 1:3-4, 1 Thessalonians 1:4).

You are loved beyond compare and worth dying for (1 John 4:9-10, John 3:16, Romans 5:8).

Nothing can separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:35-38).

You are forgiven (1 John 1:9, Ephesians 1:7, Romans 8:1 & 33-39).

You are free (Romans 6:18, Galatians 5:1).

You are secure for all eternity (2 Corinthians 1:22, John 10:28-29).

You are holy and blameless in God’s sight (Ephesians 1:3-4).

You are Precious and honored in God’s sight (Isaiah 43:4).

You are full, complete in Christ (Colossians 2:9-10).

You are accepted by Christ (Romans 15:7).

You are one with Christ in Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).

You are clothed in Christ (Galatians 3:27-28).

You are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

This is obviously not an exhaustive list, but it’s a start. Feel free to add to this list. You can even post additional truths in the comments. Whenever you find yourself believing lies – speak truth into your life. Print out these truths. Write them down. Write out one that encourages you and put it on your mirror, your car dashboard, your computer screen – wherever you will see it and be constantly reminded of truth. The truth of who you truly are!
